1 MOTYER Family Genealogy This tree consists of:
On my DAD's side:

Descendants of Joseph MOTYER
    • born in Abbotsbury, Dorsetshire County (now Dorset County), England
    • died March 1779 in Swyre, Dorsetshire County (now Dorset County), England
He had many generations of descendants with their respective branches, included to the best of my research in this tree.

His great-grandson, Ephraim MOTYER
    • born 16 November 1826 on Portland (Isle of Portland), Dorsetshire County (now Dorset County), England
    • died 20 October 1859 Maiden Well, Fortuneswell, Portland (Isle of Portland), Dorsetshire County (now Dorset County), England
had 2 sons:

John Fletcher MOTYER Sr.
    • born 20 June 1850 in Bridport, Dorsetshire County (now Dorset County), England
    • died 16 April 1927 in Pembroke Parish, Bermuda (46 days after the birth of my dad)

Ephraim MOTYER Jr.
    • born 9 March 1855 in Bridport, Dorsetshire County (now Dorset County), England
    • died 12 August 1920 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Both sons were recruited as stonemasons to come to Bermuda, to help in the building of the dockyard, about 1870-1875. This was following the war of independence by the then-American Colonies. Having lost her American Colonies, England felt the need for bases in the Atlantic, to protect her interest there. Both boys stayed after their contract was completed, married local girls and, in due course, raised families.

Although this tree contains many other descendants of Joseph MOTYER, my tree consists mainly of John Fletcher MOTYER Sr. (1850-1927) and his descendants in Bermuda, who have in the century since spread out around the world.

On my MUM's side:

Descendants of Solomon BENJAMIN (my mum's grandpa)
    • born 7 Jun 1873 in Kensington, Middlesex County (now in the London Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, Inner London), England
    • died Jan 1942 in Reading, Berkshire County, England
He had a few generations of descendants with their respective branches, included to the best of my research in this tree.

My research consists mostly of his son, Henry "Harry" BENJAMIN (my mum's dad)
    • born 9 June 1893 in Fulham, Middlesex County, Borough of Fulham (now in the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham, Inner London), England
    • died April 1939 (of Tuberculosis, caught during WW-I... his lungs were affected by German gas bombs)
and his descendants, who likewise have in the century since spread out around the world.

Although the reliably is not very high, this tree also consists of some of the ancestors of Solomon BENJAMIN (my mum's grandpa), extending back 7 earlier generations, to:

Marcus Salomons SOUGET
    • born about 1635
    • died 1679 in Amsterdam, Netherlands

Again, it is doubtful that information about Solomon BENJAMIN's (my mum's grandpa's) ancestors is reliable... if at all.
